🚶‍♂️ Gait, Posture, and the Kinetic Chain

Every time you take a step, your foot is responsible for absorbing shock, stabilizing movement, and propelling you forward. If your arches collapse, your feet overpronate, or your gait is uneven, the load shifts.

That shift doesn't stay in your shoes—it travels:

  • To your knees (creating instability or strain),

  • Up to your hips (forcing compensations),

  • And eventually affects the pelvis and spine, where compensatory patterns show up as tightness, pain, and dysfunction.

Even minor changes in how the foot hits the ground can alter the alignment of your sacroiliac joints, lumbar spine, thoracic and cervical spine.

🧠 Why Chiropractors Pay Attention to Feet

As a chiropractor, I don’t just look where it hurts—I look for why it hurts.

That often starts at the ground.

Foot function can impact:

  • Lower back pain from altered weight distribution (big one)

  • Neck tightness due to compensatory posture

  • Muscle fatigue or overuse in the knees, calves, and hips (if you dont believe me try massaging your calve muscles)

  • Imbalanced gait that feeds chronic dysfunction

When your feet don’t move well (most people’s typically dont because they are stuffed in improper footwear 99% of the day,) the rest of your body has to compensate—and compensation leads to tissue dysfunction which eventually leads to painful symptoms.

We give you drills in office and homework for at home exercises for your feet & options to improve somatic awareness of your foot/ankle/knee complex in space.

🔧 Real Solutions Start with Better Awareness

That’s why in our practice, we evaluate:

  • Your arch control and collapse

  • Ankle mobility

  • Balance and proprioception

  • Your gait mechanics, not just your pain

  • Talk about shoe selection & options moving forward.

We pair hands-on care with movement retraining to restore function from the ground up—because lasting relief starts at the foundation.

Whether you are a runner or not, you still more than likely have foot & ankle dysfunction, and everyone can always improve their mobility & strength in that area.

âś… Take the First Step

If you’ve been chasing pain and not getting results, it might be time to check your foundation. If your chiropractor doesnt check anything outside of the spine, come see me. I got you.
